My Arch 0.7 Experiance

I am writing this from my server in links2, a command line internet browser(Internet Explorer in black and white with no pictures), why you ask? The day is Wednesday, I am casually using the computer, i go to virtual desktop 4, open a folder, double click on an mp3 and the entire computer freezes, so i try a kill command and it doesn't work. I restart the computer and I get a reiserfs journal error, one more boot attempt and i get a login prompt, but when i login, i can't start X and none of the commands work. Another reboot yields the same results. All I can do is pray that my data is still intact. So I'm rather bitter at arch right now and this probably isn't a good time to write a review and hopefully no "future arch user" will take it as "this is what happens when you use arch" ... though it might be...
My other problem with arch was when i realized that the famous pacman was rather limited in packages to install. Then a few packages went corrupt on me and killed the pacman -Syu system updates. The system also runs rather slow (granted i had it up for 25 days and had a ton of stuff open)
I will say that Arch, while not being the easiest thing at all to install, is great after you do get it installed. I learned a good bit about some of the config files, and was able to get a lot working that a lot of other distro installs didn't have working. Which was really nice.
All and all it's a decent distrobution of linux and i was hoping to continue using for the simple fact that stuff worked (especially multimedia type stuff) Now I'm out to try a ubuntu linux and search for a nice, inexpensive mac laptop. err..

FW: If you don't send this to 10 others and me, you'll die

This post brought to you by: annoying emails, AOL, and viewers like you. :)

Okay, so I'm going through my email just now and there are a bunch of FW:'s. You know the kind, some dumb poem or "interesting fact" that some dolt with way too much time on their hands came up with while sitting through hours of boredom reading emails that start with FW:, they aren't worth reading...some Joke ones *are* halfway decent the first time around....3 years later...it starts to lose it's humour. Then at the end you are greeted with one of two things. Either "Send this to 5 people, something okay will happen, 10 people something cool will happen, 20 people, your life will be great!!" or "Don't tell me you don't have the time to send this 10 people" and a nice bit of Jewish Guilt on why you should take the time to send it for the good of whatever cause is being talked about in the Email. Then they all want it back. Do they not know that just becuase they sent it on doesn't mean it's not still in their inbox??? Like anyone wants their inbox filled with FW:'s, spam (redundancy alert), and RE:FW:. Now, me personally, i maybe have 15 email friends at the most, and i know for sure that 99.9% of them will most likely *not* want to recieve one of these. So what is a poor guy to do!!! I obviously *have* to send this on to a crap load of people only no one i know will want it and I don't want to fill up the sender's inbox with crap either (do unto others thing..right?) I guess i'll just have to keep taking all the bad luck and Guilt that these FW's keep putting out and suffer for the greater good of mankind. I refer to AOL above becuase i believe this all started with AOL and it's users and we all know that AOL is the company that will bring the world down to the pits of stupidty if we let it.

OH yeah, and forward this on to 10 people or you will die a horrible death tomorrow...or maybe the next day...maybe even in a few years...who knows....but it will happen! and you'll never fall in love, never get rich, and life will always suck!! But wait!! if you send this to 20 people, a penguin and a squirrel will come onto your screen and do the polka! THIS REALLY WORKS!!!! and i want this back.

New Member and other news

So the highlight and main event of this update is the addition of Arwen, a ferret. One of the kids that's rides the school bus my mom drives was offering it up for adoption, and i've wanted one for a while. So a few days ago we started out the caravan (truck and caddilac and everyone (brother, mom, me) except my dad who is completely against it...and we went into their house with dog's bigger then ponies (I forget the breed) that slobber on you and stuff and got this huge multi leveled ferret cage and a little weasel looking thingy :) and brought it all to my house. She doesn't quite like the cats yet...something along the lines of "lunch" goes through her head as she lunges at them....so she doesn't go near the cats much anymore...

Also in the news....this week has been hectic, starting last Friday....between all nighters and running out to clients and personal service calls and breaking down in the Target parking lot and dad coming out and us fixing it in the parking lot to a gas hungry truck that sucks to falling asleep at work last night, waking up at 5:00, finishing the computer, and delivering two computers at 9:00 and getting lost twice in the process :) Good times....*THUMP*

The website is on it's way to meeting it's March Deadline (still trying to stick to that.../me smacks himself for setting impossible deadlines :) ) just have to setup a dns nameserver

In sports...of course that's a joke...we here at fadumpt.net don't have sports section, nor do we have sports coverage!

Discovered?

I finally got the site on the internet. No one was online. I had to call my mom and get her to type in the IP and see if the page loaded, it did, and she looked around, hit the blog link. She claims she'll never read it so as not to discourage me from releasing my thoughts and emotions here...we'll see how that goes. :)

!!!WEBSITE UPDATE!!!
I now local ftp access to the web server, copied over my site files, forwarded the port and as aforementioned, had it tested from another ISP to see if it worked out

Now all i'm waiting for is to upgrade to the 3meg service that includes a static ip, I did promise March :)

The Cats

Teela came back yesterday evening....Rocky was getting lonely too, i'd come home and his food was half eaten and he'd meow loudly *alot*. So last night Rocky was just kinda annoyed or pissed with teela, didn't want to be near her, hissed at her once...she hissed very loudly back at him and he ran away scared, was funny.

Now they are both sleeping on my bed

Matchmaker, Matchmaker...

okay, so we all remember the church scene with fadumpt being pushed at two very hot girls....right?

OKay, so earlier this week my mom's talking to the woman at the church we go to now about joining, and they (don't ask) start talking about me...and her 20year old daughter, who is slightly overweight, and has a bit of a limp from an operation as a child from an accident...and how there is no one at her church that is her age...until now...

Yesterday my mom goes to pay the mortgage for my house for me and she's talking to the guy that we bought the house from and he knows this girl about my age (he asks "his john spoken for") So they talk about that and he says he'll get a picture first...

if you ask me my mom is getting a bit desperate....biological clock is ticking and .... no grandkids...so much for trying to meet girls in the linux section of he bookstore and computer stores :-/

The web server project is progressing, ran into a slight issue with mysql that kicked my butt for the past two days. Then i hit the part where i have to add in tables and it blew my mind...so i'm up to that, gotta decent mail server setup though (not finished). This was supposed to be apache w/ php, *maybe* mysql

Then I found this howto... :-/ tells you how to set up a mail server with courier-imap, postfix, squirrelmail, mailman, etc, and howto add SSL to mail and site and add your mail auth to mysql
