Cold

This post is brought to you by the numbers 4 and 2, the letters N and Z, and recently DSL enlightened Kiwi known as Abhishek. Who has forced me to make another post becuase he has no life! and expects my blog to keep him occupied! Well sorry! my life isn't *that* interesting! you were lucky to get the few minutes of enjoyment that you got! Moving on :-D

OK, the title :) It's supposed to Ice here (South Carolina) tomorrow. The first ice storm we have had this year. In fact, we had June weather about 3 or 4 weeks ago. We are supposed to get snow mixed with sleet in the morning, freezing rain mixed with sleet F and snow in the afternoon. 1 to 3 inches of snow. "Damaging ice accumlation likely" Freezing rain in the evening, freezing rain mixed with...err...rain after midnight

Somehow that started to sound like drinks..you know Bloody Mary, Screwdriver.....Frozen Penguin? "Mix sleet, snow, freezing rain and rain, shaken..not stirred"

the radar map shows snow, ice and rain all around me almost...

Interesting fact about down here (not sure if other places do it, I would guess your average southern areas would. But the country folk (i'm being nice) hop in their trucks on icy days and put it in 4x4 and go romping down the road...needless to say...the cops are pulling them out of ditches and trees all day.

OOH! and my website is getting closer to being finished. I finally got samba to work on the laptop and i transferred my site stuff over here so i could continue working on it. still need static and need to get the server going, so no site any time soon :-/
And i'm spent, good night all.

Forced Update

This update brought to you by abhishek who is currently holding a virtual gun to my head and forcing me to post....so don't expect quality like you've come to expect.....from other blogs...elsewhere....not here...

Well, i guess i'll use this paragraph of free space to thank Abhishek for providing me with the word that i was so desperately searching for. It was in fact improvise. Thanks Abhishek!!!

Third Paragraph...this is a tough one...i hate the third paragraph...skipping it

Ahh, Fourth! w00t... Last night, i worked til 4:00 in the morning... boss and i went out to a mortgage company to install the 4 computers they ordered. It ended up taking from like 5:00 to 9:00. Interesting story here.

One of the computers grabbed 192.168.0.100 off the dhcp server. It refused to join the domain, and basicaly flat out refused to do anything as far as local network was concerned (i don't think it would even ping the server) so we banged our heads on that one for a good while...one thing we tried was to set the ip manually (after we ran out of other options), so i made it 192.168.0.200..didn't help, so then i made another computer static to 192.168.0.100, and we set the problem computer to dhcp again, it refused to grab an ip address at all. When we tried 192.168.0.98 it worked fine though. So there you have it, a windows computer addicted to an ip address. IP Anonymous :)

Okay, so 9:00...We went to applebees for supper, Honey Grilled Salmon is really good!! and i hung out at the shop a little while and messed around with some stuff. I still had to setup email accounts for the users we replaced (we didn't have the account info, you can't expect users to keep up with their own password either) So i figured i would do that from home....well, when i got home, the remote clients kept freezing up (I was remote desktopped into the work server, pcanywhere into my computer, pcanywhere into the server where we were, and pcanywhere into the computer) so i ended up going back to work and finishing it up (it was around 2:40 at this point. Finally got to sleep at 4:00.

Woke up at 9:00 freezing to death! i turned off the heat before i went to bed, figured it was so hot in here it would be okay...nopers...so i turned it back on full blast and went to bed and slept to 11:30. Then i finally cashed my paycheck (that i've been carrying around since Monday but haven't had a chance to get to the bank)

And thats it, you get a nice long post Abhishek! (and all you other loyal readers out there...you know who you are!) (wait..i have loyal readers...nah....)

Living Alone

Okay, i wanted to do a better title, but i couldn't think of the word for making do with what you have at hand.
so this is the secondary title.

it started last night....the dishes and silverware are dirty (all the silverware!). I wanted ice cream....enter a blue plastic knife! w00t! Ice cream time :)

then today (still having not cleaned any dishes yet, and showing no signs of wanting to) ate the chicken (another whole, precooked one from the local grocery store (still on sale) that came with a bag of premixed salad and italian/french bread) with my hands. Food tastes much better that way, especially when no one is yelling at you about it.. then ate the salad (with dressing of course) with 2 more blue knives. Those little guys are life savers!

In negative news, yesterday a pipe in the bathroom (after all the bathroom pipes froze) busted and sprayed water everywhere, i was able to shut it off. Dad later fixed the piece of pipe (and patched the whole that the cats were escaping through so i could keep the door open and not have the pipes freeze again) then later that night, i went to work to pick up my paycheck and ran over a nail, so the beetle as it my paren'ts house awaiting leg surgery.....or whatever.

w00t!

I pulled an all nighter! haven't done hat in awhile, went to sleep around 6:00...you know...that part where you lie in bed cuz your bored and end up falling asleep :-/ So i got up at ~11:30...and a few minutes later my dad pulled up, bring FOOD! :) So I ate, and we drank coffee and then we ran new wire in my bedroom and put in new outlets. Now i can have more then 2 things plugged in at once :)

Beetle Praise

Went to Compusa today, check out the macs really....the guy at compusa said that DVD/CDRW drives have two lasers (cd and dvd) (didn't know that) and that if my laptop doesn't burn or read, its probably a bad cd laser and not just a dirty laser (uggh!)

Coming out of the parking lot though, this little SUV thingy comes up beside me and speeds up to pass me and get to the turn first, so i speed up and race it to the turn, fly into the turn, and keep going, and when he catches up at the next light (as it turns green) he looks over at me with this extremely confused and "you're nuts" WTF look. It was great!

Cat Bonding. . .

So they bonded today...around lunch time. I was on the computer and heard some cat sceaming from the other room. When I went to see what it was, Rocky was on top of (i'm gonna call her Teela) on top of Teela and was biting her neck in an odd sort of mating ritual.... So now the poor kitten is a sex freak (only he cant....castrated and such)

Moving Day for the Cats

Today my cats moved in. Rocky (half siamese, half...short haired domestic??) who has been living at my parent's house for the past few months, and Ms. UnNamed (half siamese and half Persian) who was a stray at my bosses house and has been living with us at the office. Ms. UnNamed got to ride in the beetle to my parent's house, i'm sure she absolutely loved the road trip, you could tell by the desperate meows and the fact that she had stuck herself in the rear luggage area and wasn't coming out...she stayed at my parent's house for a few hours to bond with all the other cats....they absolutely loved her....the hissing from both sides was more then enough to tell. So my mom and i brought them to my house and set them up (like 9:30 i think). Ms . UnNamed immediatly ran for the bed and is still pitted against the wall. Rocky is off exploring still...i haven't heard from him in a while actually....

Geek Bliss

Today when i got into work, instead of having to drive into Greenville (a good bunch of miles away from me) to fix an antivirus problem at one of our clients, i got to simply PcAnywhere into the server, then pcanywhere into the computer and fix the problem. Then, I got a call from my boss, a computer at a client in Las Vegas (we are located in South Carolina) needed Norton. So I had to login to that server via Remote Desktop and then pcanywhere into the computer. I'm a virgin at this aspect of computer repair so this morning was exhilerating.

Sub $500 Notebook

This is a little late....(the article came out December 21)...but i just hit the email so i'll spread the "old" news anyway...

Wal-mart is now selling a $498 Laptop running Linspire (Easy to use Linux Distro). Of course you don't get much: 1ghz Cyrix CPU, 128MB ram, 14.1" LCD; but for $500, it's enough to get you mobile. . .

Here is the Linpsire Link

German "Engineering"

I *finally* got my dad to help fix the Beetle today :) It needed two "quick" things. The accelerater cable snapped (again!) and an exchast gasket burned out...quick stuff right :-/

So we get out there, get everything set up, jack the car up, and get the muffler off...no problems. Where the gasket burned out, one of the studs that holds the muffler on is snapped and rusted off (later i found out that it was like that last time we had to do something in that area but we mutually decided to leave it alone) So my dad fought for a good ...maybe 20 minutes?...trying to get that piece of screw out. Finally, after much "There is no way in hell we are dropping that motor *AGAIN* (a lot of stuff we've had to fix so far has involved dropping the motor out of the car)...in the end...we dropped the motor...and still (with the extra space to try and loosen the stud) we couldn't get it out after trying everything in our arsenel. So it was off to Autozone (in the dreaded 91 Ford F150...i have to drive it when the bug is being fixed...it's too big, i like the quick and small beetle much better! (don't get me wrong, the Truck is still cool...just not my preference) So we decide on a $20 "easy-out" kit made of "hardened and heat treated steel" and head home to try it out....it snapped maybe five minutes into the attempt...so we drilled and drilled for who knows who long trying to if nothing else, get the "hardened and heat treated steel" out of the hole and make a hole that the new stud could turn itself into...all the while dad is of course (as usual) cursing what i have come to call "German Engineering", saying that he has never had such trouble on any other car...RIIIIGHT....wait til we have to work on the truck...

The Beetle runs again though! and the heat works again....hooked that up in the dark becuase i casually brought it up and so it *must be done now!* :-/

Goodnight :)
